INTEGRATION

System Integration

Reliable information is essential for using public transport – for example on timetables, connections or ticket options. The Austrian travel information service Verkehrsauskunft Österreich (VAO) plays a central role here. It ensures that transport information is prepared consistently across Austria and made available through various channels such as websites, apps and the systems of transport associations and mobility providers.

The operation and maintenance of buses in public transport are handled by the respective fleet operators. They run the routes tendered by the transport associations, including route planning and timetable. The transport associations monitor compliance with the agreed services. Planning, equipping and financing the depots are also the responsibility of the fleet operators.

The pilot operation within the ROBERTA project is integrated into these existing structures. Existing processes are analysed with regard to the deployment of automated buses and adapted where necessary. The aim is to create the conditions for long-term regular operation. Existing passenger information systems continue to be used and supplemented with additional information from the operation of the automated buses.
